Information for Ward Representatives

Nominations are invited from residents of Hawick for Ward Representatives to serve the interests of their respective Ward on Hawick Common-Riding Committee for a term of one year from October 2018 to October 2019. One representative will be elected per Ward and there are two Wards; Burnfoot and Wilton. Please note, the Wards do not correspond with present day electoral boundaries but are defined by boundaries prior to recent changes and any queries regarding Ward boundaries should be referred to the Secretariat or a member of the Committee.

Those nominated should have a genuine interest in and support the traditions of Hawick Common Riding, be prepared to attend regular meetings and undertake duties, especially during the Common Riding weekend. In addition, Ward Representatives will receive Colour Bussing postcards at their home address and sort same (gallery, downstairs and other wards) prior to the Ward Representatives meeting on Monday evening. They must also attend the Wednesday evening ballot for tickets meeting and deliver the successful cards before the sale of tickets on Saturday morning.

The proposer, seconder and person nominated must be 18 years of age or over and reside in the respective Ward at the time of the election.

In the event of more than one person being proposed for a Ward, a public vote will be held in Hawick Town Hall on 1st October at 7.00 p.m. The proposer and seconder do not need to attend this vote. Only residents over 18 years of age residing in the respective ward will be eligible to vote and must be able to prove such eligibility.

Hawick Common-Riding Committee accept no responsibility or liability for the information which is inserted by the candidate, proposer or seconder on the nomination form. Any false information given will render the application invalid.

Closing date for nominations 24th September 2018.
